Frequently asked questions
Is India Typing really free?
Yes. Every typing test, the Typing Tutor lessons, the Font Converter, and typing certificates are free, with no account required to practice.
Do I need to sign up before I can take a test?
No — pick a language and duration and start typing immediately. Signing in with Google is optional; it only saves your progress and best scores across visits.
Which languages and keyboard layouts are supported?
Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi today, all on the InScript layout — the same layout most government typing exams use — with more Indian languages planned.
How is my WPM calculated?
Every result shows three figures: Gross WPM (every character typed, correct or not, at 5 characters = 1 word), Net WPM (only correct characters count, full penalty per mistake), and SSC-convention WPM (mistakes up to 5% of words typed are ignored, matching the rule most SSC/Railway/State typing exams use).
What does the AI Weakness Coach do?
After a test, it looks at exactly which characters and letter-pairs cost you the most errors or time in that session and turns that into a short, specific practice plan — not generic typing tips.
Is the typing certificate actually valid for anything official?
It’s a free, publicly-verifiable record of a real, timed result on this site (net WPM 30+ at 88%+ accuracy), each with its own verification link. It documents your practice performance here — it is not issued by, or equivalent to, an official government exam board’s own certificate.
