About this exam

MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) Clerk-Typist is part of the broader MPSC Group C recruitment, which also covers Tax Assistant and Bailiff posts -- all sharing the same typing-test framework. Unlike most exams on this site, MPSC scores Marathi and English typing as two fully separate, both-mandatory tests -- you must clear both, not just one or the other.

This is the first Marathi-language exam page on this site (this site's own uncontested-ground advantage: no major competitor covers Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, or Telugu exam prep at all). The Marathi component specifically uses the Remington Marathi keyboard layout -- genuinely different from the InScript layout this site's main Marathi typing test and Typing Tutor currently use, so budget real practice time to adjust if you've only trained on InScript so far.

One honest note: we were not able to independently fetch MPSC's own recruitment-rules document from mpsc.gov.in this session. The figures below are reported consistently across multiple independent sources -- a real reliability signal -- but not confirmed by us directly against MPSC's own notification. See the rules section for what that does and doesn't mean.

Typing rules for this exam

Typing speed, as consistently reported: a minimum of 30 WPM in Marathi AND 40 WPM in English -- both tests are mandatory and scored separately, so a strong result in one doesn't offset a weak result in the other. Each test runs 10 minutes, with a reported passage length of roughly 300 words (Marathi) or 400 words (English), and a minimum key-depression target of roughly 1,500 (Marathi) or 2,000 (English) keystrokes.

Keyboard layout is the detail most worth getting right before you practice: MPSC Group C's Marathi typing test uses the Remington Marathi layout, not InScript. This is genuinely different from what this site's main Marathi Typing Test and Typing Tutor currently teach (InScript) -- Workstream B of this site's own roadmap plans to add Remington and KrutiDev-055 support for Marathi specifically because of exams like this one. Until that ships, treat InScript practice here as building general Marathi typing fluency, not a layout-exact simulator for MPSC's Remington-based test.

The typing test is qualifying only -- no marks are awarded toward your final score, but failing either language's test removes you from the process.

Sourcing note: mpsc.gov.in's own recruitment-rules PDF was not independently locatable/fetchable by us this session. The figures above are reported consistently across independent sources, and the Remington-vs-InScript distinction specifically was cross-checked against a source that correctly attributes each layout to a different Maharashtra exam (MPSC Group C uses Remington; a separate exam, GCC-TBC, accepts InScript) -- a genuine reconciliation, not an unresolved conflict, but still not primary-source-confirmed. Check your own admit card/MPSC notification before relying on the exact numbers for your cycle.

How errors are calculated

None of the sources we cross-checked publish a specific error-deduction formula the way SSC and RRB do -- they describe the requirement as a flat minimum WPM plus a minimum key-depression count within the 10-minute window, similar in shape to CPCT's scaled-speed approach rather than SSC's full/half-mistake system. Treat clearing both the WPM floor and the reported keystroke-count target, in both languages independently, as the actual bar.

30-day preparation plan

Week 1 -- baseline both languages separately, since both are mandatory. Take a full 10-minute run in Marathi and a separate one in English, and record both net WPM figures -- MPSC doesn't let a strong result in one language cover for a weak one in the other.

Week 2 -- if you've only trained on InScript, start building Remington Marathi fluency now. This is a genuinely different key layout, not a small adjustment -- the physical key-to-character mapping is different from InScript, so treat it as learning a new layout from a real baseline, not refining an existing one.

Week 3 -- push both languages toward the reported keystroke-count targets with margin. Track your practice in raw keystroke/key-depression counts (roughly 1,500 Marathi / 2,000 English, as reported), not just WPM, since that's closer to how MPSC is reported to actually measure this test.

Week 4 -- run both tests back to back, in sequence. Since both languages are tested as part of the same overall process, rehearse doing a full Marathi run followed by a full English run (or vice versa) in one sitting, not just isolated single-language practice sessions.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming a strong English result offsets a weak Marathi one (or vice versa) -- both languages are reported as separately mandatory.
  • Practicing exclusively on InScript when MPSC Group C's Marathi test is reported to use Remington specifically -- a different layout, not a variant of the same one.
  • Tracking only WPM and ignoring the reported minimum key-depression/keystroke-count targets.
  • Treating this page's figures as officially confirmed rather than consistently-reported -- MPSC's own recruitment notification for your specific cycle is the one to trust over any summary, including this page.

Frequently asked questions

Does MPSC Clerk-Typist require both Marathi and English typing?

Yes -- reported sources consistently describe both as mandatory, scored separately (30 WPM Marathi, 40 WPM English), with no offset between them.

What keyboard layout does MPSC use for Marathi typing?

Reported sources consistently name Remington Marathi for MPSC Group C specifically (Clerk-Typist, Tax Assistant, Bailiff) -- different from the InScript layout a separate exam, GCC-TBC, is reported to accept.

Is the MPSC typing test scored toward my final merit?

No -- reported sources describe it as qualifying only. You must pass both languages, but it doesn't add marks to your score.

How long is the MPSC typing test?

Reported as 10 minutes per language, with roughly a 300-word Marathi passage and a 400-word English passage.

Does practicing InScript on this site prepare me for MPSC's Marathi typing test?

It builds genuine Marathi typing fluency and speed, which transfers generally -- but MPSC Group C's Marathi test is reported to specifically require the Remington layout, which uses different physical key positions from InScript. Treat InScript practice as a foundation, not an exact simulator, until this site adds Remington support.
