About this exam

UP Police's typing test applies to four specific posts recruited together by UPPRPB (Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board): Sub-Inspector (Confidential), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accountant), and Computer Operator Grade-A. It runs after the written exam has already shortlisted you -- like most typing tests on this site, it's a bar you clear or don't, not something that adds to your score.

Three of the four posts (SI Confidential, ASI Clerk, Computer Operator) need both English and Hindi typing. ASI Accountant is the exception -- only Hindi typing is required, at a lower speed, since that post's day-to-day work is accounts-focused rather than general correspondence. Check which post you're actually applying for before assuming the standard English+Hindi requirement applies to you.

One honest note before you rely on this page: UPPRPB's own notification for this specific recruitment cycle has already rolled past its typing-test date (held February 2026), and its detailed PDF wasn't independently locatable on uppbpb.gov.in's current listings as of our verification date. The figures below are reported identically across several independent exam-prep sources with no disagreement between them -- see the sourcing note in the rules section for exactly what that does and doesn't mean.

Typing rules for this exam

Typing speed and accuracy, as consistently reported: 30 WPM in English and 25 WPM in Hindi, both requiring at least 85% accuracy, for SI (Confidential), ASI (Clerk), and Computer Operator Grade-A. ASI (Accountant) has a separate, lower bar: Hindi typing only, at 15 WPM -- no English component at all for this specific post.

Keyboard layout is the one place UP Police is stricter than most exams on this site: only Mangal font on the Unicode InScript keyboard is reported as allowed. Both KrutiDev and Remington GAIL are explicitly excluded -- if you've trained on either of those for a different exam, that specific muscle memory won't carry over here.

The typing test is qualifying only -- your score isn't added to the final merit list, but failing it removes you from the process regardless of your written-exam performance.

Sourcing note: we visited uppbpb.gov.in directly and were not able to locate this specific cycle's own detailed notification PDF (its current Notices listing has already moved on to newer, unrelated recruitment cycles). The figures above are reported identically across multiple independent exam-prep sources with no numeric disagreement between them, which is a real signal of reliability -- but it is consistency-based verification, not us independently confirming the number at the primary source the way we did for SSC CHSL/CGL and RRB NTPC Graduate. Check your own admit card/UPPRPB communication for anything that might have changed for a future cycle.

How errors are calculated

None of the sources we cross-checked publish a specific full/half-mistake deduction formula for UP Police's typing test the way SSC and RRB do -- they consistently describe the requirement as a flat minimum WPM plus a flat minimum accuracy percentage (30 WPM/85% English, 25 WPM/85% Hindi, or 15 WPM Hindi-only for ASI Accountant) rather than a worked error-deduction calculation. Treat "hit the WPM floor AND the 85% accuracy floor, both at once" as the actual bar -- a fast but sloppy run that misses 85% accuracy fails just as surely as a slow one that misses the WPM target.

Practice for this exam

30-day preparation plan

Week 1 -- find your real WPM AND your real accuracy, not just one of them. UP Police requires both a speed floor and an 85% accuracy floor simultaneously. Take a full test in your target language(s) and check both numbers -- a lot of candidates only track WPM and get surprised by the accuracy requirement.

Week 2 -- drill on Mangal/InScript specifically, drop any KrutiDev habit. If your prior Hindi practice was on KrutiDev or Remington, this is the week to deliberately retrain on InScript -- UP Police doesn't accept either of the other two, so partial KrutiDev fluency won't help you here.

Week 3 -- push past 85% accuracy with margin, not exactly at it. Since accuracy is a hard floor, not a soft scoring factor, aim to comfortably clear 90%+ in practice so a bad day on test day still leaves you above 85%, not exactly on the line.

Week 4 -- know your specific post's requirement before test day. If you're applying for ASI (Accountant), your bar is Hindi-only at 15 WPM -- don't over-prepare English typing at the expense of Hindi accuracy for that specific post. Everyone else should have both English and Hindi comfortably above target going into the final week.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Practicing on KrutiDev or Remington for Hindi -- UP Police is reported to accept only Mangal on Unicode InScript.
  • Chasing WPM alone and ignoring the 85% accuracy floor, which is enforced independently, not as a tradeoff against speed.
  • Assuming ASI (Accountant) needs English typing like the other three posts -- it's reported as a Hindi-only requirement at a lower 15 WPM bar.
  • Treating this page's figures as officially confirmed rather than consistently-reported -- check your own admit card/UPPRPB notice for your specific cycle before test day.

Frequently asked questions

Which UP Police posts require a typing test?

Four posts recruited together by UPPRPB: Sub-Inspector (Confidential), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accountant), and Computer Operator Grade-A.

What typing speed does UP Police require?

Consistently reported across multiple sources: 30 WPM English and 25 WPM Hindi, both at 85% accuracy, for SI (Confidential), ASI (Clerk), and Computer Operator Grade-A. ASI (Accountant) has a separate, lower requirement: Hindi only, at 15 WPM.

Can I use KrutiDev for the UP Police Hindi typing test?

No -- reported sources consistently state only Mangal font on Unicode InScript is accepted; both KrutiDev and Remington GAIL are explicitly excluded.

Is the UP Police typing test scored toward my final merit, or pass/fail?

Qualifying only -- it doesn't add to your merit score, but you must pass it to stay in the selection process.

Does ASI (Accountant) need to type in English?

Reported sources describe ASI (Accountant) as a Hindi-only typing requirement at 15 WPM, unlike the other three posts, which need both English and Hindi.

Where can I find the official UPPRPB notification for this test?

On uppbpb.gov.in's Notices/Direct Recruitment sections -- note that a past cycle's specific notification typically comes down once that cycle's process completes, so search for whichever cycle is currently active rather than an older one.
