Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 17, 2026. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what India Typing collects, why, and what it does not do with it. If anything here is unclear, our Contact page has a real way to reach us.

Typing statistics: anonymized and aggregated, never raw keystrokes

When you take a typing test, the keystroke-by-keystroke rendering and correctness checking happen entirely in your browser. What we send to our server is a compact, aggregated summary: for each character or letter-pair (bigram) you typed, how many attempts, how many errors, and the typing rhythm around it. We never transmit or store your raw keystroke sequence, the actual passage text you produced, or anything that identifies you personally alongside that data — the aggregate table these statistics feed into has no user-identifying column at all, by design. This aggregate data does two things: it lets us compute your session’s score, and it accumulates, anonymized, across every visitor and language into the training dataset for a self-learning coaching engine we intend to build once enough real usage exists.

If you sign in with Google

Signing in is entirely optional and only exists to save your XP, level, streak, and per-language best scores across visits. If you choose to sign in, we verify Google’s sign-in token and store three things from it: Google’s stable account identifier for you (a long string called a “sub”, which does not change even if you later change your Google email address), the display name and profile picture URL Google reports for your account, and your typing progress (XP, level, streak, per-language bests, earned badges). We never store the raw sign-in token itself, and we never use your email address as an identifier or a password. Your session afterward is kept alive by an opaque access token stored in your browser’s local storage rather than a traditional login cookie — a reasonable tradeoff for saving typing-practice progress, but one that means the token should be treated like any other credential in your browser: it is not appropriate for anything more sensitive than this site’s own progress-tracking.

The AI Coach and Claude

The “Get my AI Improvement Report” feature is optional and only runs when you click it. When you do, we send Claude (an AI model built by Anthropic) only the same anonymized, aggregated per-character/bigram statistics described above for that one session — never your name, account details, or raw keystrokes — and ask it to write a short coaching narrative and a couple of practice drills. This feature runs under a hard monthly spending cap that we enforce ourselves: once a month’s cap is reached, or when your session’s pattern closely matches one we have already generated a report for, you still get a real report, but it comes from a cached narrative or a rule-based fallback built directly from your stats instead of a fresh call to Claude. No typing session is ever billed more than once, and report generation is never silently skipped or shown as an error — it simply falls back to a still-useful, non-AI report once the budget for that month is used up.

Typing certificates

If a test result qualifies for a free certificate (rank B or better), we store the qualifying test’s language, speed, accuracy, and rank, together with an unguessable verification code. If you were signed in with Google at the time, we also attach the display name from your profile (never your Google account identifier or email) so the certificate can show who earned it; if you were not signed in, it is labelled “Anonymous typist” instead. Anyone who is given the verification code — and only someone given that exact code — can look up and confirm that one certificate; there is no page or feature that lists or searches certificates by name, language, or any other field.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser’s local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember your dark/light theme choice and, for guest visitors who have not signed in, your XP/level/streak/badge progress on this device. None of this is shared with or sold to anyone.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell any of the data described on this page to third parties, and we do not currently run any third-party advertising or tracking network on this site. The two providers we do share data with, and only for the narrow purposes described above, are Google (to verify a sign-in you initiate yourself) and Anthropic (to generate an AI coaching report only when you request one, using only anonymized aggregate statistics). If that ever changes — for example, if we add an analytics or advertising provider in the future — we will update this page to say so honestly rather than leaving it to go stale.

Your data, your choice

If you would like to know exactly what we hold against your Google account, or you would like it deleted, contact us at our Contact page and we will act on it directly — there is no automated self-service export/delete tool yet, but every request reaches a real person.

Changes to this policy

If how we collect or use data changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and change the “last updated” date above.
