This is Lesson 1 of your Tamil InScript typing course, covering the home row (A S D F G H J K L ;). The left-hand keys give you Tamil's own vowel signs in these home-row positions -- ொ (o), ெ (e), ி (i), ு (u) -- and the ் pulli, Tamil's name for the virama mark that removes a consonant's inherent vowel. The right-hand keys give you five common consonants: ப (pa), ர (ra), க (ka), த (ta), ச (ca).

Tamil's own alphabet has fewer distinct letters than Devanagari (no separate voiced/voiceless or aspirated consonant letters), so this lesson's set is exactly the letters a Tamil InScript typist actually reaches for here, not a forced import from Hindi's layout. Real words you'll type using only these: பசு ("cow"), தரு ("give" -- an everyday imperative), குரு ("guru/teacher"), and கரு ("dark/embryo").
